Semi-Finished Products

Semi-finished products are intermediate goods that you produce from raw materials and then use as components in your finished products. For example, a dough or a pre-assembled sub-component. They sit between materials and products in your production chain.

Semi-Finished Products Page

The Semi-Finished Products page lists all your intermediate products. This feature must be enabled in Settings > Features to appear in the sidebar. Semi-finished products have their own stock tracking, recipes, and cost calculations.

  1. Ensure the Semi-Finished Products feature is enabled in Settings > Features.
  2. Navigate to Semi-Finished Products in the sidebar menu.
  3. The list displays: Name, SKU (stock-keeping unit code), Unit (typically kg), Stock (current quantity), and Cost per unit in base currency.
  4. Click on a semi-finished product's name to open its detail page with full recipe, usage information, and history.
  5. Use the search bar to filter by name or SKU.

Creating a Semi-Finished Product

Creating a semi-finished product defines an intermediate item that has its own recipe (from raw materials) and can be used in finished product recipes.

  1. On the Semi-Finished Products page, click the + (Add) button.
  2. Enter a name for the semi-finished product (e.g., "Pizza Dough", "Pre-Mixed Spice Blend").
  3. Enter a SKU code for internal tracking (e.g., "SF-DOUGH-001").
  4. Select the unit of measurement. The default is kg, but you can choose pcs, l, or m.
  5. Add a description explaining what this semi-finished product is and how it is used.
  6. Enter the cost per unit in your base currency. If a secondary currency is enabled, enter that cost as well.
  7. Choose a color for visual identification in lists and charts.
  8. Optionally upload an image of the semi-finished product.
  9. Click Save to create the semi-finished product. You can then define its recipe.

Recipe / Composition

The recipe for a semi-finished product defines which raw materials are needed to produce one unit of it. This is the first level of your production Bill of Materials (BOM).

  1. Open a semi-finished product for editing or navigate to its detail page.
  2. Scroll to the Recipe / Composition section.
  3. Click Add Material to add a raw material to the recipe.
  4. Select the material from the dropdown list.
  5. Enter the required quantity of this material per unit of the semi-finished product (e.g., 0.3 kg of flour per 1 kg of dough).
  6. Repeat for every material used in production of this semi-finished product.
  7. The system calculates the total recipe cost based on material prices and quantities.
  8. Click Save to update the recipe.

Where It's Used

The Where It's Used section on a semi-finished product's detail page shows which finished products include this semi-finished product in their recipes. This gives you a clear view of downstream dependencies.

  1. Navigate to the semi-finished product's detail page by clicking its name in the list.
  2. Scroll to the Used In section.
  3. You will see a list of all finished products that reference this semi-finished product in their recipe/composition.
  4. Each entry shows the product name and the quantity required per unit of the finished product.
  5. Click on any product name to navigate to that product's detail page.
  6. This information is critical when considering changes — if you modify or discontinue a semi-finished product, you can see exactly which finished products will be affected.
